Réflexions Féminines
"To mark the Year of the Woman and for the first time in France, the departmental glass museum-workshop in Sars-Poteries is presented the work of Karen LaMonte through an exhibition created directly with the artist.
The artist steals from chemistry "its amorphous compounds" that prefigure glass. If the term literally means "formless," Karen LaMonte's works give substance to life-size sculptures, from glass encasements to sensual drapes. Alchemy then operates between this absence of the body and the invention of this second skin. Symbolic skin, "wormy" but no less sublime, to be understood in its universalizable dimension. Indeed, if clothing qualifies us, it also subjugates us." - Caroline Hattiger
