Vanitas 09 Remnant Child's, Oval Mirrors.jpg

Vanitas

Dresses have their own stories in the same way as the human body, which gives the immaterial central space of Karen LaMonte's glass sculptures their form. The illusion of the body is only present where it presses against the dress, underlining the way the sculpture’s torso recalls classical antiquity.

Lark Mirrors form the other part of the exhibition. Karen is interested in the mirror as an object of vanity and futility. It is the medium of an intimate image, perfectly realistic and so immaterial at the same time.

Set in mysterious Romanesque cellar spaces and entitled Vanitas, this was Karen's first solo exhibition in the Czech Republic.
